Receive Fax Transmissions by Email - Send Fax Transmissions Over IP Networks
Inbound fax to email is a feature of the VoIP Unlimited SIP services. If you are using VoIP in conjunction with our SIP license, inbound fax transmissions can be converted to an image and routed to a nominated email account. Porting fax numbers removes the need for a telephone line, saving on rental charges. Fax to email reduces paper, ink and maintenance costs. In addition, electronic versions of fax transmissions are easier to manage, store, and convert to text. Sending fax data over a VoIP network relies on use of a protocol called T38. In essence, a T38 compatible service converts a fax to an image and then sends it to another T38 compatible fax device which converts the image back to an analog fax signal that can be fed into a standard fax machine (as in the diagram above). A T38 compatible IP-PBX or application is necessary to send fax documents over a data network to standard fax machines. VoIP Unlimited SIP services are compatible with T38 and support the exchange of fax data with the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network).
